What is vibratory pile driving?

To drive piles into non-cohesive (especially, water-saturated) ground , it is necessary to use a vibratory pile driver.

The method of vibratory pile driving is based on the fact, that friction and adhesive power are lessened under vibration of specific frequency and a pile, that transfer vibration to the ground, begins to sink. The speed of the pile sinking increases with increasing of vibration machine’s weight.

The process of pile-sinking into the ground consists of:

1. lifting and setting of a pile in a design position
2. actually, sinking of the pile into the ground
3. moving the pile driver to the place of the pile sinking
4. moving the pile driver to the place of the next pile-sinking

What technical equipment is used for vibratory pile driving?

In the first place it is vibratory pile drivers indeed.

Vibratory pile drivers are mechanisms, which transfer vibrations of specific frequency, amplitude and direction to submersible (or recoverable) elements to provide their sinking (recovering).

The operation of pile drivers is based on an abrupt decreasing of the friction factor between the ground and surface of the submersible (recoverable) element under occurring vibrations.

Low-frequency pile drivers are used to drive solid concrete shell constructions and piles up to 12 meters in length into homogeneous soft ground.

Their characteristics:

• significant vibrations amplitude
• relatively big static moments of debalances
• driving force and total weight
• low frequency of the vibrations

It is low-frequency pile drivers that allow working successfully near the buildings and constructions, because of the reduced vibrations transfer to the environment and reduced noise.

Also pile drivers, based on the cranes and excavating machines, are required.
